California Gas Taxes

The state of California is raising taxes on gasoline.  The justification given for the raise is that people are driving less, so tax revenues from gas sales have fallen.  No mention is made of the fact that California already has by far the highest gasoline prices in the USA except for Hawaii.  So, on top of the highest state income taxes in the country, California is now imposing more taxes on its inhabitants.

Years ago, there used to be bumper stickers on cars in Massachusetts that said nothing but "Taxachusetts".  It was a complaint about the high taxes in that state.  Those complaints almost seem quaint today when compared to the tax levels in California.

I truly wonder whether we will see the entire economy of California decline over time as more and more people move out of the state to escape taxation.
