Hats Off to Senator Rand Paul

As I am writing this, senator Rand Paul of Kentucky is speaking on the senate floor in a filibuster against the nomination of John Brennan to head the CIA.  What is the reason for the filibuster?  The Obama administration and president Obama refuse to rule out the possibility of holding drone strikes against American citizens INSIDE the USA.  In fact, the Attorney General now says that the president has the right to order a drone strike to kill an American citizen with a drone strike here in the USA.  Senator makes clear in his statements that he is talking about non-combatants, not some armed group carrying out an attack.  That means we are talking about whether or not Obama has the right to order the death from the air of an ordinary American who is doing nothing more than saying things that Obama thinks is being sympathetic to our enemies.

It is inconceivable that Obama and his group could claim this right.  They don't have it under the Constitution.  That is without a doubt correct.  But our president who taught Constitutional Law and who knows better still claims the right.  What's next?  Will we have political prisons, re-education centers, gulags, and all the rest?  This is the wrong course for the country.

I usually find Rand Paul a bit too much to take.  Today, however, I take my hat off to him.  He is publicizing a problem that threatens us all.
