With all the big news today about lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, there is another story that is being passed over by the media. Okay, even if the lanes had all stayed open on the bridge approaches, the mainstream media would never have reported this story. Nevertheless, it is extremely newsworthy. The story comes from Ramallah, in the West Bank area of Israel. Ramallah is the location of the Palestinian Authority, the "government" headed by president Abbas. Abbas, as you surely know, is the "partner" for peace that president Obama is pushing on Israel.
In Ramallah this morning, there was a small riot as Palestinians attempted to storm a peace meeting attended by Israelis and Palestinians. Specifically, the meeting was part of a group called "Ordinary People Make Peace". The meeting was designed to have everyday Israelis and Palestinians get together to discuss how to bring peace to the region. The result of that meeting was an attack by Palestinians on the hotel where the meeting was occurring and a rescue of the meeting participants by the local police. Since this all took place in the West Bank, the attackers were not heavily armed. There was no loss of life. Had the meeting been elsewhere in the Arab world, we can only assume that all involved would have been killed or at least wounded.
Isn't it great that Secretary of State Kerry is out there every week telling us how the region is moving towards peace? What a joke!
