The War On Poverty -- A Correction

Last Sunday, I commented on the article in the New York Times discussing the "mixed bag" results of the War on Poverty.  Near the conclusion of my post, I wrote that the cost of the War on Poverty had been $2,000,000,000,000.  That was incorrect.  The cost was not two trillion dollars; it was actually ten times larger or twenty trillion dollars.  I misread the actual figure.

Put another way, had the War on Poverty never been declared, twenty trillion dollars in expenditures would have been avoided which means that there would be no national debt and America would have a three trillion dollar surplus right now.
