Hillary Positions Herself For the Iranian Nukes

At the Time magazine site today, there is a remarkable article about the American response to a potential Israeli airstrike on Iran in 2010.  The focus of the piece is on internal Obama administration discussions about dealing with the Iranian nuclear weapons program three and a half years ago.  According to the author (Michael Crowley), Hillary Clinton raised the question whether or not it might be a good thing for the USA to give Israel a green light to attack the Iranians so that the program could be destroyed with no American involvement.  It is interesting on a whole host of fronts.

First, why has this story come to the fore right now.  The answer is simple.  The almost certain outcome of the just completed agreement with Iran is that the Islamic Republic will soon have nukes.  When that happens there will be repercussions among Americans unhappy that this eventuality was not prevented.

Second, why focus on a question raised by Hillary Clinton when, according to the article, everyone rejected it?  Again, the answer is simple.  The Clinton machine (which in the past has often used Time magazine) is setting up so that Hillary can say that she was in favor of taking strong action against the Iranians through the Israelis.  In other words, Clinton wants to let all the negative response to an Iranian nuke hit president Obama rather than her.  In addition, Clinton wants to show how she wanted to work together with Israel rather than in confrontation with it.  Clinton certainly does not forget the importance of supporters of Israel in the electorate.

The truth is that it is disgusting that rather than coming up with a policy that stopped the Iranian nuclear program, Clinton and Obama are now trying just to position themselves for the political fallout from their failure.

America deserves better than these two.
