The Truth is Harsh

In the last day, two different former high government officials have had some very harsh things to say about president Obama and his international policies.

First, we have former Secretary of Defense Gates and his soon to be released memoir.  Gates voices his opinion that Obama really did not care about Afghanistan and Iraq except insofar as he could hasten the day of a complete American withdrawal.  Gates describes the anti-military views of the high ranking staff in the White House and Obama's support for them.  He also recounts how both Hillary Clinton and Obama admitted in his presence that their opposition to Iraq and Afghanistan was driven by politics rather than the national interest.

Second, we have former UN ambassador John Bolton lamenting the focus by Obama on the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, a move which has taken the focus of American efforts off events in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Afghanistan.  Particularly since the Palestinians have shown no desire for peace, Bolton thinks that the Obama efforts have been a waste of time which have also led to great damage to America's position in the Middle East.

The truth about Obama's foreign policy (or more precisely, his lack of one) is harsh and troubling for America.  Still, it is better that we look squarely at it and consider how it can be improved than that we continue the Obama practice of just lying about it to try to make it look good.
