The White House has suspended the credentials of Jim Acosta of CNN. Although the usual leftists will rant and rave about this, it is a very appropriate move. I watched the video of yesterday's press conference by the President. Acosta just lost control of himself. First, he argued with the President rather than asking a question and getting an answer. Acosta was rude; he was speaking to the President of the United States and he should have respected the office even if he doesn't respect the occupant. But that is minor compared to what happened next. The White House intern whose job it was to pass the microphone to the next reporter came and began to take the microphone. Acosta held on to it and then pushed her arm away. Acosta got physical with a young woman who was only doing her job. There was no need for that. But even that was not the end, the President went on to the next reporter but Accosta jumped up in the middle of that guy's question and started talking again. He had to have the story be about him rather than about what the President had said.
There are certain rules that reporters have to follow. They can ask the President anything they want. They can't push interns. They have to wait their turn and they can't interrupt other reporters. They have to let the President speak without interruption. Acosta did not. The decision to suspend his credentials is the right one. Notice that other reporters who asked confrontational questions but who behaved properly did not have their credentials taken. This is not chilling the rights of the free press. It's requiring reporters to behave like adults rather than spoiled children.
