The primary in West Virginia yesterday ended the congressional career of Democrat Alan Mollohan. Mollohan followed his father into Congress many years ago and the two of them had held this seat for over 40 years. Mollohan campaigned on the basis of all the goodies he had brought into the state over the years. His opponent, however, kept pointing out that over the last ten years, while Mollohan was a congressman, his net worth rose from $500,000 in 2000 to $6.3 million in 2007. Mollohan was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his new found wealth.
It is nice to see the Democrats in West Virginia dump another business as usual Congressman who seemed more interested in lining his own pockets than in serving his constituents. No matter who wins this seat in November, the people of the USA have benefitted.
