Poll position

Over the weekend there was a singular development in the polls that were released. Arlen Specter has fallen behind his opponent Congressman Sestak in the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania. This marks the first time that Specter has trailed Sestak in any poll. Unfortunately for Arlen, the primary is in one week. I guess as people get to know Sestak, they realize that they like him better than Specter. After all, most Pennsylvanians already know that they do not like Specter, so it is not such a big leap to vote for Sestak.

The winner of the primary will still depend to a great extent on who turns out. At this point, however, I think that Sestak will pull this out. There will then be a tight race in November between Toomey and Sestak. While I hope that Toomey will win, either one would be better than Specter the Defector (the Defective -- you pick). A man like Specter with no principles whose only goal is re-election is not what is needed in Washington.
