AP is out with a piece about the "retirement" of Helen Thomas due to her "Israel gaffe". That was no gaffe. Thomas was speaking her mind and exposing her true views. Anyone who knows much about Helen Thomas knows that she has been strongly anti-Israel for years. She has also been strongly against any US involvement in Iraq or Afghanistan, even right after 9-11. Still, Thomas had not been so blatant as to expose her true sentiments on video previously.
A gaffe is a mistake. If Thomas had mispoken, that would have been a gaffe. Thomas, however, was just telling her true views.
To paraphrase the old joke, That was no gaffe, it was the truth.
