If you had any doubt that the Obama "jobs" plan or the new "deficit reduction" plan was just a political ploy, today's news puts that issue to bed. The word is out that the president will not include any modification to the Social Security system in his proposals. We all know that during the negotiations last July about the deficit reduction programs, Obama suggested modifying the way that the cost of living increases for Social Security are calculated. On the issue of Medicare, Obama had said that he was open to bringing the retirement age under Medicare in line with that under Social Security. Just those two changes would have saved trillions of dollars in future government expenditures. Today's news is also that Obama is now against any modification in Medicare other than reducing the payments to providers.
Let's translate this news into English. President Obama wants to run against the Republicans as the barbarians seeking to destroy social security and medicare. That means that Obama has to run away from his prior proposals even if they made perfect sense for the country. The truth is that Obama does not want to reach a deal with the Republicans to help the country. He wants to appear to try for a deal only to fail so that he can blamed the Republicans.
America deserves better than this. We need a president who puts the country's welfare ahead of his own re-election. Of course, in Obama we have instead a man who has re-election as his principal goal. After all, if Obama could sell out the national defense for a 90,000 dollar contribution, it is not a stretch to watch him destroy social security and medicare for political advantage.
Obama has got to go.
