The Solyndra Raid

Most of you must know by now that the FBI raided the offices of Solyndra this morning. Solyndra is the maker of solar panels that got over half a billion dollars from the federal government as part of president Obama's green jobs initiative. Of course, once the money was used up, the company filed for bankruptcy. It seems that the only green in the jobs was the green in the money that came from the federal government.

In the last few days, it also came out that the mangement and principal owners of Solyndra were frequent visitors to the White House during the Obama years. While it is premature to conclude anything, it certainly looks like the president used the green jobs initiative in the stimulus package to send half a billion dollars to his friends at Solyndra.

This all makes today's FBI raid very interesting. Steven Hayward at Powerline speculated that the raid may actually be the start of a coverup by the administration. After all, if there is a criminal investigation, the Department of Justice can probably block the release of any information from Solyndra to Congress before the election in 2012. Of course, that would mean that Eric Holder, the Attorney General would be using his office for political purposes. That could never happen. Just think: Holder denies any knowledge of the Fast and Furious gun running operation. It was just ATF according to him. Of course, that ignores the fact that DOJ had to and did approve all of the substantial costs incurred for the program. It also ignores the statement of the acting head of ATF that DOJ was well aware of the program. Holder also says that there was no politics involved in dropping the charges against the New Black Panther party for voter intimidation in Philadelphia in 2008. The testimony from the lawyers in the Civil Rights Division that DOJ instituted a policy that said that no white voters would be protected from intimidation must just be a misunderstanding. There's more, but the point is that Holder is the single most political Attorney General that I can recall since John Mitchell during the Nixon administration. Do you think that Obama has an enemies list?
