Is there something in the water in Washington?

Connecticut was hard hit by hurricane Irene beginning just about a week ago. As of this morning there were still about 15% of all homes in the state that had no power even after the passage of almost six days since the rains stopped. People are hurting and they are looking to the government for help. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, a Democrat, issued a statement through her office today which begins like this: "Congresswoman DeLauro has been working virtually non-stop since the hurricane hit." The only problem with this statement is that Rosa is on the Amalfi coast in Italy on vacation and has been there since before the hurricane hit.

How can a member of Congress be so stupid as to think that a lie like this will not be discovered. She claims to have been working non-stop, but we all realize that she has been working on her tan!

After watching the lies that just spill forth from the lips of politicians, I have come to wonder if there is something in the water in Washington that leads people to the condition where they just cannot tell the truth. It sure seems like it.
