Appearing before a Congressional committee today, Attorney General Eric Holder said that he has done nothing to stonewall the Congressional requests for information about Operation Fast and Furious, the gun running operation that let Mexican drug cartels get 2000 American assualt wealpons at the behest of DOJ. To say the least, the man has nerve.
Right now, there are 93,000 documents requested by Congress that Holder has refused to turn over. Nevertheless, Holder has shown the documents to the Inspector general of the DOJ. Holder has no valid basis for withholding documents requested by Congress. In English, that is called STONEWALLING.
Holder gave a new version today of when and how he first learned of Fast and Furious. Since his first claim before Congress that it was only May when he heard of the operation, the date has gotten earlier and earlier. In today's testimony, Holder used the date of "early January" as the time he became aware of the operation. Again, Holder has no explanation for the ever changing date of discovery. Maybe he is channeling his boss; he CHANGES the date in HOPE it will get him off the hook.
Holder did admit today, however, that despite knowing for a full year of the crazy operation to sell guns to the Mexican drug cartels, he has not disciplined even a single government employee for his or her part in the operation. Sure sounds more like a coverup than an investigation.
Holder did get one thing right: he says that the Congressional hearings will embarrass the Obama Administration. He is correct. If HOlder wants to end that embarrassment, he should do the right thing and resign.
