Yesterday, I wrote about the statement by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that Israel was likely to attack Iran's nuclear sites this spring. It was an incredible performance from someone who is purportedly a friend of Israel. Now comes the official comment from the White House on the Panetta statement. The White House press office says that the president is "surprised, disappointed and confused" by the Panetta statement. That's correct; the President of the United States of America says the when his Secretary of Defense telegraphs the date of military action by America's ally, that he is "SURPRISED, DISAPPOINTED AND CONFUSED!!!!!!!"
Obama must think that all Americans are idiots. Does Obama really expect us to believe that Panetta makes this statement and he is surprised? That's ridiculous, but not nearly as ridiculous as a claim of being "confused". If Obama is confused by the statement, all he has to do is call Panetta and ask about it. I am sure that Obama knows how to get in touch with Panetta with no problem at all.
This has to be a preplaned move by Obama and Panetta. If it were otherwise and Panetta was really making an inappropriate remark, Obama's reaction would be a lot stronger than a claim of confusion and surprise. What kind of a Keystone Kop organization is Obama running?
My guess is that Obama had Panetta make this statement in order to try to head off an Israeli attack. Iran's response, however, is to issue bellicose threats to Israel and the USA and to step up terror threats against Israeli and Jewish targets around the world. If anything, this will give Israel even more incentive to attack. In other words, this is just another of those miscalculations which come so consistently from Obama. And this is one that Obama cannot fix with a speech. Obama is pushing the region towards war when he should be doing the opposite.
