In Oklahoma today, Rick Santorum responded to the new barrage of attacks being launched against him by Mitt Romney and his unaffiliated superpac. According to the National Journal, Santorum said that Romney's campaign “has been about serially tearing down opponents without offering any kind of vision for what he wants to do for this country."
While I know that Romney has offered statements of his positions many months ago, Santorum is correct that the current Romney campaign is uniformly negative. Here's a key statistic: in Florida, Romney spent about ten million dollars on television and radio ads; all of them were negative except for on 30 second radio spot which ran on Spanish language radio six times. Further, every time I see Romney quoted on TV he never is talking about what the country should do (other than vote for him). All we ever hear is that he is a businessman and everyone else is a career politician. It really has to stop if Romney is ever to win the nomination and get elected. The truth is that Americans will not chose a candidate who does not enunciate a positive vision for the country. Tearing down the opponent is never going to win the nomination of the election for Romney.
