The USA closes its embassy in Syria; the UK recalls its ambassador

For those of you who read tea leaves, two events happened within moments of each other today that may signify big things to come in Syria. The United States announced that it had withdrawn its amabassador and all embassy personnel from Damascus. The American embassy in Syria is now officially closed. Immediately after that announcement, the British Foreign Office announced that the ambassador to Syria had been recalled for consultations in London.

While the State Department said the closing of the US embassy was due to security concerns that were not being addressed by the Syrians, the departure of both embassies on the same day may indicate more. If either America or the UK gets its armed forces involved in Syria to stop the wholesale killing by the Assad regime, the embassies would have been potential flash points for retaliation. Removing the potential future hostages from Damascus clears the way for action.

Let's hope that these actions were coincidental and not an indication of some imminent action.
