He's Not Even Useful

Back in the 1930's, there were people in the West who were called "useful idiots" because they thought that Soviet style Communism was a force for good and they did what they could to support it even though the Soviets themselves held these people in contempt.  Many attributed the phrase to Lenin, although there is no clear proof that this is so.  The idea of a well meaning fool spreading propaganda for an evil force came to mind this week as I watched the coverage of the meetings between the North Korean Leader Kim and basketball player Dennis Rodman.  Just think about it.  In the last year, North Korea under Kim has violated its agreements with most of the rest of the world and conducted additional nuclear weapons tests.  North Korea has also carried out repeated tests of missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads to anywhere in the world, another violation of agreements entered into by the NK government.  Just the other day, North Korea announced that as of next week it would abrogate the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War.  Let's be clear what this means:  if the armistice is abrogated, it means that North Korea and the United Nations are back in a state of ongoing war.  Will there be attacks that will follow?

For those of you who like coincidences, I would point out the prophecy of the Popes.  Many hundreds of years ago, a prophecy was made that was said to describe 112 popes from the 12th century forward.  The last of the popes described is Pope Benedict XVI who just resigned.  If North Korea actually starts a nuclear war in the next few days, Benedict XVI could actually be the last pope.

Moving on from the anhilation of humanity, let's get back to Dennis Rodman.  This genius spent a few days in North Korea with his new friend Kim Jung Un, the North Korean leader.  Rodman then told the media what a nice guy Kim actually is and how Kim would like to discuss basketball with president Obama.  For me, this is roughly the same as if Michael Jackson had announced in 2002 that he had met with Osama bin Laden who was really a nice guy and to add that Osama wanted to discuss recipes for chocolate chip cookies with Laura Bush.  I just wonder if Rodman realizes that he is being used.

Look, the problem with Rodman is not that he is a useful idiot.  The truth is that he is not even useful.
