There are some new polls in Texas in the Cruz - O'Rourke senate race. Ted Cruz remains ahead by an average margin of 6% in the Real Clear Politics average of all polls. What's most interesting though, is that the latest poll came from Emerson. This is the pollster who gave Cruz only a 1% lead about two months ago. That led to all sorts of discussion about whether or not the Democrat O'Rourke could actually turn this into a real race in red Texas. Now, Emerson has Cruz comfortably ahead. Indeed, of all the polls taken in this race, Cruz has never trailed and the only one that was really close was that old Emerson poll.
It is too early to call this race for Cruz, but despite the "celebrity" character of Beto O'Rourke, he seems unable to close the deal with the voters. I guess his history of driving drunk, getting into an accident and then trying to flee the scene was just too much for the average Texan.
