It's hard to believe that Senator Hirono of Hawaii is an idiot. I always assume that senators are reasonably intelligent. After all, they made it to one of the highest offices in the country. Even in states that are under one party control, it is unusual for a party hack to make it to the senate. It happens, but it is far from the norm. After hearing Hirono's answer to a question from Dana Bash of CNN, though, I am really starting to wonder about Hirono.
Bash asked Hirono whether it was appropriate for protesters to attack Republican senators in restaurants, elevators, and on the streets. Here's the exchange:
BASH: Should they [the protesters] be going after [Republican] people at restaurants?
HIRONO: This is what happens because when you look at white supremacists and all that, this is what’s coming forth in our country. There is a tremendous divisiveness in our country. This is the kind of activism that occurs and people make their own decisions.
Think about that. Hirono says it's ok for protesters to go after Republicans at restaurants because of white supremacists. No one says that senator Cruz of Texas is a white supremacist. No one would call senator Flake of Arizona a white supremacist. No one would call the secretary of homeland security a white supremacist. All three were harassed by left wing protesters, though. The same is true of the GOP congressman who was physically attacked in his office in the Capitol. No one would call him a white supremacist.
The reality is that none of the Republicans in the House or the Senate are white supremacists. So what the hell is senator Hirono talking about?
I guess she really is a moron.
