After the blow out of the BP well in the gulf of Mexico, President Obama banned drilling in the Gulf. the official ban is on deep water drilling, but all drilling was stopped because the federal government would not issue new permits to drill. Since that time, the ban was enjoined by a federal judge, the President put a new moratorium in place, and today -- conveniently three weeks before the elections -- the administration announced that it was liftimg the moratorium early. It also announced -- and here's the catch -- that it would be putting new regulations with regard to drilling into effect. As per usual, the regulations were not released. these will come at a later date. The lack of release of the regulations makes me suspect that these regulations will manage to stop any further drilling for the time being even though the drilling will not be banned per se. there have just been too many "clever" ploys by obama to stop drilling from moving forward.
So far, the drilling ban has probably cost the gulf region 25,000 jobs. the official estimate is 12,000, so I am just doubling it. Indeed, it could be higher. Strangely, it seems that when jobs are lost, the administration always seems to underestimate them while job gains get inflated beyond all recognition.
The handling of the blow out of this well was perhaps the low point of the Obma Administration thus far. That, indeed, is truly saying someing! Imagine, Obama's worst act. It is like being named Jack the Ripper's worst murder.
