In a story about quantitative easing, Time reporter Stephen Gandel write about the possibility fo civil war stemming from the actions of the Federal Reserve. He actually says, "But, with the Tea Party gaining followers, the idea of civil war over economic issues doesn't seem that far-fetched these days." I think he has lost his mind.
The likelihood of armed insurrection due to the purchase by the federal reserve of long term government bonds is one of those scenarios that only appears in movies (and not very good movies at that). Still, Gandel describes how the elderly will suffer as a result of this policy and then discusses the coming insurrection. Afterall, throughout history, it has been the elederly who most often began civil conflicts. they are just so impatient.
Actually, I think the point of the article was to allow Time to find a way to link the Tea Party with armed conflict. There certainly has not been any violence coming from that movement. Even so, Time does not want to give up the Tea Party as Extremist meme that has been the mainstay of the main stream media.
