The race for governor of Connecticut has turned into each candidate announcing that the other has lied. I have been reviewing the various charges and counter charges and find that Democrat Dan Malloy has been trying mightily to twist the facts in order to distort the truth about his record. Here is an excerpt from Malloy's official website where he talks about his "proven results":
"In a state that has struggled to create employment opportunities, Malloy brought nearly 5,000 new jobs to Stamford. While Connecticut continues to lose residents he was able to attract 12,000 new residents to the city."
So what is wrong with these statements? First, according to the official figures, Stamford lost a net of over 13,000 jobs while Malloy was mayor. If Malloy want to claim credit for 5000 jobs that moved into the city during his tenure, then he ought to take the blame for the 18,000 jobs that moved out of Stamford during that same time. Second, it strains credulity to state that people moving into or out of Stamfod did so as a result of anything that Malloy did as mayor. Have you ever heard anyone say that they moved to Stamford because Malloy was mayor? Of course not.
