Tonight was the one and only debate between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle in the Nevada Senate race. I did not see the debate, but I can tell from the news coverage that Angle must have done extremely well. The headlines in the article were things like "Nevada candidates trade barbs at debate". I could not find even one article about the mistakes that Angle made or about her "extreme positions". It must really have killed the mainstream media reporters not to be able to denigrate Angle in their pieces. Indeed, since there is nothing negative said about her in the articles, I have to assume that she really won the debate. It may be a sad thing that we have to conclude that Angle won the debate because the media does not say anything bad about her performance, but it is, unfortunately, accurate.
Tonight's debate was a dangerous situation for Reid. He has spent months portraying Angle as a right wing crazy who want to turn the clock back to 1850. If Angle went toe to toe with Reid in the debate and looked knowledgeable and competent, Reid is toast. His whole campaign will have been undermined less than three weeks before election day. What can he do? He cannot talk about the issues; for Democrats that is a sure loser.
