Green Jobs in the Age of Obama

We have all heard the promises. President Obama has told us over and over how the USA has to invest in the future with green jobs. When the Stimulus passed, there was going to be nearly $100 billion spent to develop green energy and Obama promised 800,000 new jobs at a minimum. Money was going to wind and solar energy firms. Other money was going to those building electric cars and their components. Green energy jobs were the wave of the future, a way for good paying jobs to be brought back into the American economy. And Obama spent all that money. Billions and billions have been doled out by the feds to companies like Solyndra, General Motors and many others. Which leads to the main question: how is all this working out?

Today, I saw a fact which pretty well sums it all up. According to the American Wind Energy Association, since 2009, the capacity of wind farms in the USA has doubled. During that same time, the number of people employed in the wind energy industry has DECLINED by 10,000. That's right! Obama's big push for green energy jobs has resulted in a LOSS of 10,000 jobs according to the industry. Can you believe it?

Another good indicator comes from the Copper Mountain Solar Project. This huge solar array in Nevada is so big that Obama went out there for a campaign appearance..err.. a presidential speech last month. The solar array was built with mostly federal funds and it supplies energy to the grid in Nevada. Of course, the energy generated costs more than energy from coal or natural gas plants, but we do get all those green jobs as a bonus. So, how many jobs did this $141 million dollar solar energy plant generate? The answer is 9. That is nine jobs total. It is not even nine jobs on site at all times. The nine jobs cover everyone needed at any time for the solar facility. Just imagine, that is a mere $15 million per job.

The clear truth is that Obama's promise to create green jobs was a phony one. He was given authority to do what he wanted, he carried out that plan, and all the country got was a lot of debt and no jobs. Obama failed.

The truly insane thing, however, is that Obama is still talking about creating green jobs by doing more of the same. I wonder sometimes if he is that dense or if he just thinks that Americans are that stupid.
