Rick Santorum suspended his campaign for president this afternoon. The reasons for the move are unimportant; what matters is that Mitt Romney is now the certain nominee. No rational person could come up with a scenario other than a personal tragedy for Romney that gives the nomination to anyone else.
Santorum deserves immense credit for a campaign that can only be described as surprising. Just imagine, a former senator with no money wins about 40% of the states and puts up a close fight in most of the rest. We all watched as week after week some new non-Romney became the flavor of the day who was leading the Republican pack. Now, after a year of campaigning, there were only two men who had managed to run for all that time and keep both support and the respect of the party. That the party chose Romney does not lessen the accomplishment of Santorum. He deserve congratulations for running the good race.
So now the real race can begin: Romney against Obama. It will be vicious for sure. The attack maching one the left is already getting started. Indeed, I just saw a lefty who posted that he wanted to thank Bella Santorum for getting sick enough to drive her father from the race. With people that demented on the left, one can only imagine just how low the attacks on Romney will get. No matter. Romney can take it and he has perhaps the best response of all: Romney can talk about Obama's record. That's right, in 2012, fantasies about hope and change will not do it. Folks have seen what three and a half years of Obama's failed leadership has brought.
So, once more I say OBAMA HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!
