The Disgrace of Damascus

Today brings news that the Syrian regime of Bashir al Assad is once again telling lies to the international community. Supposedly, Assad's forces are pulling out of Syrian cities and ending the slaughter of civilians who oppose Assad. All fighting is supposed to end in three days under the plan of the United Nations Secretary General. News reports tell us, however, that Assad is using tanks and artillery together with infantry in three different cities across Syria. Hundreds are dying. Yesterday alone, about 2500 Syrians fled across the border into Turkey to escape the carnage.

We need to get to the point where the futile diplomatic moves end. Right now, the regime in Damascus is a disgrace. Let's try to make sure that our own conduct is not also disgraceful.
