Obama Damages North American Friendship

It seems hard to believe that relations between the United States and Canada could be strained. Most Americans think of Canada as just like the USA only a bit further north. While that view is clearly parochial, it is also unquestionably friendly and favorable towards our nothern neighbor. Canada and the USA are the world's biggest trading partners. The two nations have worked together for seven decades on all sorts of world problems. The good will between the two countries is immense. So, how is it possible that relations with Canada are deteriorating rapidly, first with the veto of the Keystone pipeline and also with the US preventing Canadian entry into a trans-pacific free trade group.

The destruction of US/Canadian relations wrought by Obama and the Obamacrats is set forth very clearly in an article in Investors Business Daily. It can be reached by clicking on the title to this post. I strongly recommend that everyone read it.

Most of the time, Obama is judged on the big items like the success of the economy or the rise in gasoline prices. It is not often where someone in the media looks closely at a stable pillar of the American enterprise that Obama is undermining. Just imagine for a moment the things that would change if the relationship between the USA and Canada were to become like the relationship between the USA and some not-unfriendly country like Spain. My best estimate is that such a change would reduce economic growth here by about a half a percentage point annually. Yet, as the IBD article makes clear, Obama is moving us in that direction. Obama is a disaster for the USA.
