Another Low for CNN

I just happened to see CNN explain the vote in the senate against expanded background checks for guns this way:  too many moderate Democrat and Republican senators are concerned because large segments of their home states oppose this bill even though nationally over 90% support it.

I thought this might be a slip of the lip, but the CNN reporter repeated it about 30 seconds later.  The fools at CNN seem not to understand that if 90% of the public actually favored expanded background checks, there would not be states with anything like a majority opposing that measure.  The truth is that the 90% figure comes out of one poll that asked a distorted question designed to get a supportive answer.  Indeed, a separate recent poll found that only 4% of the public thinks that gun control is even an important issue.

Why is it so important to CNN that the news get the pro gun control slant even when they have to bend the facts to make it so?  Isn't it possible that the senators who voted no thought that the measure would be costly and intrusive while NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM?
