Wow, That Did Not Take Long

I am not sure why, but Yahoo is my home page on the internet.  As a result, each time I open my browser, I am treated to the latest in left wing news from Yahoo News, one of the most slanted "news" organizations in America.  Today, the headlines included the inevitable response to the defeat this past week in the senate of gun legislation.  "How US Politics is Broken," screams the headline.  Now I knew that liberals would never accept the vote in the senate as the will of the people, but I am surprised by the speed at which the vote is now being described as the clear indicator that politics is broken.

For those of you who do not know, "broken politics" is code which means that the liberals did not get what they wanted.  Indeed, if you read the Yahoo article, you could see the fullness of this point of view (also its dishonesty).  Here are a few choice sentences on another subject in the article:

We've seen that Americans want us out of wars, for example, and yet the wars continue. We've seen Americans […] want higher taxes on rich people, but that of course hasn't happened.

Yep, those pesky Taliban in Afghanistan keep fighting, so the war continues even as we get ready to leave.  That sure shows broken politics.

And there haven't been tax increases on the rich, right.  Oh wait, actually there have been major tax increases on the rich.  In the last five years, taxes on the wealthy have risen so that the total tax bite on many of the rich went up by more than 10%.  That's not a 10% increase in the amount of taxes; no, it means that the government is taking more than another full 10% of their income.  So there have been higher taxes on the wealthy.

Much of the liberal media does not worry too much about its facts.  It seems to me, however, that if one pronounces politics to be "broken" one ought to at least get the facts straight that supposedly support that claim.

UPDATE:  An hour after I wrote the original post, Yahoo News began featuring a new story about what a terrible week it was for America.  Top billing for terrible news went to the Boston Marathon bombing, but second place went to the vote in the senate on amendments to gun control legislation.  This was worse, according to the article, than a large loss of life in the Texas explosion and the ricin attacks by the Elvis impersonator from Mississippi.  Really?  A senate vote on an amendment that would not have stopped any of the violence is worse than the nearly total destruction of West, Texas?  Unbelievable!
