The big story out of South Korea today comes from the meeting between Bill Gates and the president of the Republic of Korea. Gates shook hands with the president using only one hand rather than placing his other hand on top of the first. In Korea, this is considered very casual and a sign that one considers oneself superior to the other person. It is rude.
Personally, I don't care if Gates gets the local customs wrong. He should know better. It is not a great idea to insult the president of South Korea.
More important, however, is that the big news from Korea is no longer Kim Jong Nuts and his warmongering chorus. Let's be thankful for that.
