It's an Amazing Day

There is so much going on in the world today, that it is hard to know where to begin.  Just look at all these developments:

1)  The most important British prime minister since World War II, Margaret Thatcher has been laid to rest in England.  The UK elevated the occasion to just under a formal state event, something not normally done for a former prime minister, but appropriate given the major impact that Mrs. Thatcher had on that nation and the world.  For our part, the USA was represented by a second level diplomat from the embassy in London.  Neither president Obama nor funeral-goer-in-chief vice president Biden could be bothered to attend.  The secretary of state also boycotted the funeral.  We sent the charge d'affairs from the embassy.  Really?  We all know that president Obama dislikes the British, but how can he snub our closest ally like that?

2)  The senate is going to start voting on the various gun control proposals today.  Right now, it seems likely that they will lose.  Indeed, it seems likely that they will lose badly.  No assault weapons ban.  No magazine limits.  No expanded background checks.  Indeed, the only bill that has a glimmer of a hope is one to provide that states must recognize concealed carry permits issued by other states.  So what does this mean?  First of all, it means that folks across America realize that none of these gun measures would have prevented the recent massacres in Newtown and Aurora.  Second, it also means that the oft cited poll in which supposedly 90% of the populace supports expanded background checks cannot be correct; senators are not that ignorant of public views.  They would never ignore an issue supported by 90% of the people.

3)  The crazies are out in force following the tragic bombing in Boston.  The deranged left wing "journalist" David Sirota writing in Salon expresses hope that the bomber will turn out to be a white male.  According to Sirota, that will save some poor ethnic or religious group an unnecessary burst of discrimination and it will serve to show that white males have too much privilege in our society.  Comedian Jay Mohr states that the Boston bombing is further proof that the Second Amendment to the Constitution has to go.  So there is a terror attack in Boston, and the loony left responds with their usual formula of blaming racism and pushing gun control.  Are they so out to lunch that they don't see the insanity of that response?

4) In New York City, a new poll shows that Anthony Weiner is in second place among Democrat primary voters should he decide to seek the mayoralty.  Weiner's main claim to fame is that he was forced to resign after tweeting lewd pictures of himself.  The current mayor is called a nanny due to his attempts to control the sugar intake of residents.  What would they call Weiner as mayor.  Would we go from Nanny Bloomberg to Perv Weiner?  How about Tweety Pie Weiner?  What will his platform be?  Will he promise to bring porn back to Times Square?  The possibilities are endless.
