Some Overlooked News

Sometimes, I like to bring out news items that get no coverage in the American media.  Here are two that merit review:

First, Iran appears to be having trouble selling its oil on world markets.  This is good news since it means that the sanctions are actually working.  According to satellite photos, Iran has parked tankers offshore of its main oil terminal.  The ships are holding about 25 million barrels of oil and they are not going anywhere.  That oil is worth over two billion dollars on world markets.

If the sanctions are ever weakened, Iran will immediately sell the oil and gain the cash that it needs.  For now, however, the sanctions are squeezing Iranian cash flow.

Second, it is worth a small update on Al Jazeera, the Arab news network that bought Current TV from Al Gore.  Yousuf al-Qaradawi, a Sunni Moslem cleric with a highly popular show on Al Jazeera was scheduled to attend and interfaith conference in Qatar, but backed out.  According to al-Qaradawi, he could not attend a conference attended by Jews so long as they were "raping Palestinians and destroying mosques" in Israeli territory.  Of course, what al-Qaradawi says is a complete lie, but the Al Jazeera star says it nevertheless.  This should tell you all you need to know about Al Jazeera.
