You may have heard by now that Fidel Castro has penned a column in the Cuban press which calls upon North Korea not to use nuclear weapons to attack the South. Castro also tells president Obama that if nuclear war breaks out in Korea, Obama will be remembered as a sinister individual.
For those of you who find it amazing that Castro would write such an article since he obviously has no involvement in the confrontation in Korea, I suggest that you consider the impact Castro's words will have in Washington. There is literally a big chunk of the progressive movement that will take Castro's words as wise counsel from an important world leader. Indeed, for these folks, the real message from Castro is "Get Obama to back down!" Of course, that will be hard to do since Obama hasn't really taken any kind of a stand in the dispute.
I wonder what is to come next? Will the ayatollah Khamenei issue a fatwa against any who use nuclear weapons in relation to Korea? Will the Mexican drug cartels call for peace on the grounds that war would harm their businesses? Stay tuned and see.
