By now, you probably know that two explosions occured within seconds of each other at the finish line of the Boston Marathon this afternoon. Two people have been confirmed dead and dozens have been wounded. Basically, that is all we know.
In watching the coverage, I was struck by those who say that this is likely a terror attack. We don't know that. There are signs that point the other way. After all, the Marathon was won hours earlier. At the point of the explosion, only those finishing in the middle of the pack were near the finish line together with the spectators who were cheering these folks on. The bigger crowds were there earlier, and any terrorist would know that. It does not make sense to time the explosions for a moment when the crowds were smaller.
In the next few hours, the police will have a very good idea what caused the explosion. I suggest that we all wait before we decide that terrorists were involved. Indeed, I suggest that you all say a prayer for the well being of those who were injured in these blasts and for guidance for those who are looking into the cause of the explosions.
