For some reason, former congressman Anthony Weiner thinks he should be able to get back into public office. For those who have repressed the story, Weiner was caught texting nude or partially clothed photos of himself to women other than his wife when he accidently sent one of the photos out on Twitter to all who followed his feed. Of course, that was not the worst part of the story. No, Weiner lied about photos and claimed they were fakes and that his twitter feed had been hacked. Then he attacked the media outlet that had first printed the photos. It took a few days of ever more blatant lies before Weiner finally was made to realize that his days in public office were over and he held a tearful news conference to lament his fate.
Well now it is some years later and Weiner wants to rise again. He held a news conference to discuss his running for mayor or comptroller of New York City. It is true that New York has quite an open view on the private acts of its officials, so Weiner's photos themselves would probably not have blocked a comeback. There would be a group of voters for whom this conduct would disqualify Weiner, but they would not be sufficient to stop him. Weiner's lying to the public and his terrible mishandling of the aftermath of the discovery of the photos, however, ought to certainly be sufficient to disqualify Weiner from ever holding high office even in New York. Weiner is, to use and old fashioned word, a scoundrel. The people of New York know this and are unlikely to forget it.
Can't the media stop covering Weiner? There are enough problems in the world so that we need not hear the delusional views of this scoundrel.
