Get Ready For More

Reports have surfaced indicating that the number of Russian troops on the eastern border of Ukraine has risen in the last three days from 30,000 t0 80,000.  The Russian government says that the troops there are part of a military exercise, but Pentagon sources say that there is no activity by the Russian troops that looks anything like an exercise.

Oh boy!  Here we go!  Is Russia about to invade eastern Ukraine?  Will the Russians take the entire country?  If this happens will the Ukrainian forces resist so that there will be massive battles and hundreds or thousands of dead and injured?  Will America and NATO do anything this time (other than sanctions that are best described as a joke)?

The truth is that we just do not know.  Putin may be putting all these troops on the border so that he can reluctantly agree not to use them in exchange for the lifting of all sanctions or other retribution regarding the invasion and takeover of Crimea.  On the other hand, Putin may want to put Russian troops in Kiev as part of his re-establishment of the Russian Empire.  Will he take the title of Tsar Vladimir I?

At this point, the only thing that is certain is that the USA under Obama is not going to help the Ukrainians resist an invasion.  Our "fearless leader" has already made that clear.
