It's Not Enough

Senator Harry Reid has agreed to pay back his campaign for certain expenditures that were questioned by the Federal Election Commission as improper.  That certainly does not sound like big news.  But there's more.  According to the news reports, the expenditures in question were campaign funds given by Reid to his granddaughter for "holiday presents".  Now it sounds like Reid must have given his granddaughter a Christmas gift and taken the money from the wrong account.  But there's still more.  Reid made two payments to his granddaughter and the total amount paid was $17,000.  That's right, Reid took seventeen thousand dollars of campaign funds and illegally gave the cash to his granddaughter.  Then he tried to hide the illegal payments as Christmas gifts.  But there is even more!  The payments were made months before Christmas; they had no relation at all to the holiday.

Think about this.  We have the head of the senate Democrats illegally funneling campaign cash to a family member and trying to cover up the transfer by actually calling two payments totaling seventeen thousand dollars as "holiday gifts."  How many people across America gave their grandchild that amount of money in October as a Christmas gift?  My guess is that the number is zero.  Reid should be prosecuted for a clear violation of the campaign finance laws if the allegations against him are proven true.  Don't hold your breath waiting for the indictment, however.  In Obama's Washington, justice depends on who you are and who you know.
