Race Relations

It's worth comparing Trump and Clinton on the metric of race relations.  They were asked about it at the first debate and both Hillary and Trump have spoken on the subject more than once.

1.  Hillary's response to a question about race in America at the debate was to talk on three subjects.  First, she discussed issues between the police and minorities.  She said that everyone has a problem with race and that the police need better training.  In substance, she was saying that the police are racist like most Americans and we need to train them to change.  Second, Hillary spoke about the need to modify the criminal justice system to let more people out of prison.  In substance, Hillary was saying that there are too many minorities in jail.  Third, Hillary spoke about the need for gun control.  Obviously, Hillary had run out of points regarding race, so she shifted to guns as a fall back.

2.  On the same question, Trump spoke about the need to restore law and order in all of America.  He did not call the police racist.  Instead, he said that if the police shot someone wrongfully, they should be punished, but if the shooting was justified, then we need to support the police.  Trump has also made clear that he is against letting people out of jail based upon their race; if they committed a crime, then they should do the time.  Trump, however, has gone much further.  He has spoken about the need to bring jobs back to the inner cities.  He points to minority unemployment as something that is completely unacceptable.  He also says that reducing illegal immigration will result in jobs becoming available for people who need entry level jobs like so many of the unemployed.  He calls for fixing our trade policies so that America's jobs will not be exported to China or Mexico or elsewhere.  Those jobs will help bring down unemployment and restore some prosperity as well.  Trump speaks in favor of economic growth for everyone, not just for the rich Wall Street types that Hillary's policies would favor.
