Last night's NFL game was the lowest rated ever for Sunday Night Football. It wasn't that the game was boring; it went into overtime. Rather, there were just many fewer people watching. Some say it is the result of folks boycotting the NFL because of the whole mess with the national anthem. Others say that there is just too much football on TV for people to take. Of course, there's no more football this season than there was last season, so that doesn't really explain the drop.
My opinion is that it is a combination of factors at work. It has gotten harder and harder over the years for some people to identify with the NFL It is not just the protesting second string quarterbacks that turn people off. It's more the fact that the guy protesting injustice makes tens of millions per year to sit on the bench. It's hard to see him as a victim.
For whatever reason, the NFL ratings are tanking big time. If the trend continues, we will soon see real protests as the players get lower salaries. Oh, the horror!
