The Media Agrees: Trump Won

There's an art to figuring out what the media people think, but it's really not that hard to do.  With regard to last night's presidential debate, there is a clear consensus in the media that Trump won.  Let me explain:

1.  Among the few media outlets that favor Trump, he was, not surprisingly, proclaimed the winner.

2.  Among media that is mostly even handed (like the Wall Street Journal), Trump was also named the winner.

3.  Among the media outlets that are strongly pro-Hillary, no one was named the winner.  Instead, the articles talk about how nasty the debate was or they rehash the discussion of the video containing what Trump called "locker room talk".

This third point is the key.  My local Hearst paper refrained from naming a winner.  Given that Hearst has had the motto "all Hillary all the time", the silence on naming a winner speaks volumes.

The only place that I saw Hillary named the winner was in the supposedly "scientific" CNN poll of debate watchers.  That poll, however, is a joke.  Imagine a poll taken between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM Eastern time.  Just think about the reaction that CNN must have gotten from the people who were contacted.  It's a joke.

On the other hand, it is clear that the online polls went for Trump.  Those polls are also highly flawed since anyone who wants to can vote and the campaigns encouraged their supporters to vote.
