Yesterday on Morning Joe on MSNBC, Mika gave the reason (in her view) that President Trump keeps talking about hydroxychloroquine. According to Mika, either the President or a friend of his must have a big financial interest in producing this drug. That statement wins Mika the title of Moron of the Week.
Let's just take a quick look at the nonsense this woman is pushing.
1. Hydroxychloroquine is a generic drug that has been on the market since the 1950's.
2. Hydroxychloroquine costs less than ten cents per pill.
3. The average course of treatment for a corona virus patient is two pills the first day and then one pill on each of the next six days. That's a total cost of eighty cents.
4. Three different huge drug companies donated about 40 million pills to the federal government. That's enough for five million patients who get the full treatment, and it's free. FREE!!!
5. Many of the other treatments that are being examined are drugs that are still patented. Those drugs are expensive.
6. Hydroxychloroquine has been widely used for the last half century or more. In some countries the majority of the population take the drug daily to prevent or combat malaria. There are potential side effects, but these come from long term usage. A one week course of treatment -- like that for the corona virus -- would present none of the side effects with one exception: those with serious heart problems have to be monitored to make sure that hydroxychloroquine does not worsen their condition. Put another way, no one who gets hydroxychloroquine from their doctor will suffer side effects since the doctors won't prescribe it for people with the relevant heart conditions.
So putting all this together, we have a drug that has been shown in some studies to help in the treatment of the corona virus. It's about the least expensive drug that could possibly be used. The US government already has sufficient quantities of the drug to treat twenty times the number of people who have gotten the corona virus to date. No one is going to make money off this drug.
I guess a short way of saying this is that Mika Brzezinski is either a disgusting liar or a complete moron. She shouldn't be spreading lies on TV, but she does anyway.
