It seems to me that much of the truth about the corona virus and what is happening in our country is getting lost in the avalanche of news stories and fake news that is out there every day. Just look at two stories from the last few days.
1. The Democrats in the Senate went back to their customary tactics of blocking a vote on an urgently needed measure to increase funding for the employees of small businesses so that they won't lose their jobs and health insurance during the pandemic. The original amount of funding passed ten days ago is proving to be too low. There is a high likelihood that without the increased funding, millions of people will be denied benefits. The Senate Democrats, however, wanted a batch of their own new proposals to be included. Basically, the Dems are refusing to vote for a critical program to help millions so that they can get their pet projects enacted into law.
Coverage of this blackmail by the Senate Democrats is very sparse and much is even untrue. The Washington Post originally wrote a headline that said that Senate Democrats had blocked further funding for a critical program. Within an hour, though, the Post changed the headline to read that Democrats and Republicans had blocked measures in the Senate.
2. CNN came out with an article yesterday that quotes its usual unnamed sources to report that the US intelligence agencies were monitoring the corona virus in China in November or 2019. The import of the article is that China wasn't able to conceal the virus from US intelligence and that our government knew months earlier about the disease and did nothing. Of course, there's a problem with that story: it's not true. CNN didn't bother to ask the intelligence agencies prior to publication, but after the article hit, the Director of National Intelligence sent word to CNN that the article was totally inaccurate. CNN didn't drop the story and it didn't even bother to add that the DNI had said the story was false. CNN just pushed its fake news.
None of this is helpful to anyone. Right now, truth is very important for everyone to know.
