Accomplishments matter

For so long we have heard the mantra "Words Matter" from the media and the politicians. I think it is time to replace that slogan with "Accomplishments Matter". I mean, words are nice, but they do not stop terror attacks, clean the environment, get people jobs, move the economy forward or change people's lives. Just look at the last three months and you will see what I mean. After the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico we were told that the administration was there from day one. Of course, these words, while comforting, are false. We were also told that the administration has a contingency plan in place for dealing with oil spills like these. Again, these words, while comforting, do not stop the oil from spilling into the water; indeed, the contingency plan has yet to be put into action.

After the upset following the Arizona immigration law, the protests and the Times Square bombing, we are told by Janet Napolitano that the President is focused "like a laser" on border security. It is hard to say that these words are comforting to anyone with a brain, but they are a nice try. Only a fool would believe that Obama cares in the least about border security. He stopped construction of the border barrier and has done nothing to move forward with any sort of border control.

After healthcare passed, we were told that Obama was now focused like a laser on jobs. Again, this sounds nice to a population filled with the unemployed. Of course, since that announcement Obama has done nothing to lower unemployment. Indeed, his administration has really done nothing this year to reduce unemployment. Instead, obama continues to push initiatives that will hurt the economy and increase unemployment.

Even in the healthcare debate, we were told that the bill would reduce the deficit over the first ten years. While few believed this nonsense, it took only a few weeks until an official study said that the bill for the program in the first ten years would exceed three hundred billion dollars. so no reduction in the deficit, just another increase.

In foreign policy we see the administration announcing what close allies the US and Israel are. Then we see the actions where Obama throws a hissy fit because the Israelis approve construction of homes for Jews in Jerusalem in an area that will be part of Israel after any peace agreement. Obama then puts maximum pressure on the Israelis and treats their Prime Minister with substantially less respect than he treated Hugo Chavez or even the president or Iran. Still no peace, however, so no accomplishment other than damaging US-Israeli relations.

It is time for the country to stop accepting words instead of deeds. If Obama wants credit for focusing on jobs, let him do something that brings down the unemployment rate. If he wants credit for not blowing the clean up from the oil spill, let him get the government doing something that actually helps stop the leak. If he wants credit for confronting terrorists, let him stop the string of terrorist attacks that have hit the US since he took over as President.

Actions and Accomplishments matter! Accountability for failure also matters. Let's not forget this.
