Good Bye Obey

Congressman David Obey, the chief architect in the House of the Obama "stimulus" package, has decided to retire rather than face the voters in November. Obey has serve 21 terms in the House, but the anger among voters in his Wisconsin district that he faced this fall was so strong that he is calling it quits. This is not surprising since it is hard to imagine how Obey could defend the so called stimulus which did nothing but run up the deficit. It was sold as the means to keep unemployment below 8%. Of course, the rate is now at 9.7% and it is unlikely to see 8% any time soon. Obey also had a hand in the Obama budget which could best be described as spend, spend and then spend some more.

As we bid farewell to Obey, I can only thank him for the great service he has done for the country by retiring. Even if Obey gets replaced by another Democrat, it may be one who has some sense of how the economy works and who still wants to do things that will help the average person. After all, things can only improve after Obey leaves.
