Blithering as an art form

Yesterday, David Axelrod appeared on Meet the Press on NBC. Axelrod is Obama's chief political advisor. He was so bad that he did everything but drool on his shirt. He was asked when will Obama's policies begin to bring down the unemployment rate. In response, Axelrod babbled but said nothing. He was asked whether there was room to compromise with the Republicans on tax rates. In response, Axelrod blithered but said nothing. He was asked about John Boehner's statement that House Republicans would agree to extend the tax cuts for those earning under $250,000 if that was all that was achievable. Axelrod stammered and then filibustered. I still do not know what his real response is. He was shown obama's statement over the last year as to how the economy had turned the corner and was growing well (like the Recovery Summer). Axelrod talked, but again he had no response.

It was strange to see the spokeman for Obama get such a grilling on NBC which has been Obama's biggest cheerleader. It was sad to see such a high official so unable to give a coherent answer to important questions about the economy. Perhaps the worst moment for Axelrod came when he was asked why Obama is now coming forward with all these new programs when it is unlikely that they can get passed in the upcoming three week session of Congress. Why, Axelrod was asked, did not Obama propose these last Spring when they could have been passed and they could be helping the economy now. Axelrod started talking about George Bush in response. In other words, Axelrod had no answers.

If there ever was an indictment of Obama's economic policies given by one of Obama's inner circle, this was it. There was not a single point that Axelrod made that had any logic to it. Apparently, Axelrod is hoping that the fact that Obama is not Bush will enable the Democrats to hold the House. You would think he would realize that Americans want results. If Obama and the Obamacrats cannot get those results, the people will try something else.
