Now the future of the nation depends on the ground zero mosque

According to the AP, "Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told CNN that the discourse surrounding the [ground zero mosque] has become so politicized that moving it could strengthen the ability of extremists abroad to recruit and wage attacks against Americans, including troops fighting in the Middle East."

If there was ever a better reason to oppose the ground zero mosque, I have not seen it. The man behind the mosque is proclaiming that his actions in putting the mosque there and refusing to move it in the face of public outcry over how inappropriate it is will lead to harm for American troops. Of course, every single thing that pertains to Islam and the United States is always annonced as a great recruiting tool for terrorists. Remember Guantanamo? While Bush was president, it was the greatest recruiting tool for Al Qaeda according tot he Democrats. Now that Obama has taken office and failed to close Gitmo despite his promises to the contrary, no one ever tells us anymore about how it aids recruiting for Al Qaeda. Why is that? Has something changed at Gitmo? The simple answer is that nothing has changed by the "D" after the president's name instead of an "R".

So what does today's outburst from Rauf mean? I translate it into English this was: Rauf is saying that he realizes that his group is losing badly in the court of public opinion and that opposition to the ground zero mosque is, in fact, growing. As a result, he is trying to use claims of safety for American troops as a reason to regain the upper hand.

The truth is that Rauf's claims are nonsense. Ever since 9-11 we have heard about how each action that the left does not like is a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda. Those actions come and go, but Al Qaeda still seems to have the same recruiting success. When they were winning in Iraq, their recruiting was doing better. Of course, at that time no one on the left said that success in Iraq was critical to beating Al Qaeda. No, at that time Iraq was just a civil war according to none other than Obama himself. When the surge defeated Al Qaeda in Iraq, we never saw the stories that reported on the difficulties being encountered by Al Qaeda in recruiting to a losing cause. Instead, the shouting moved on to attacking Gitmo. by now, all Americans know that these claims are nonsense even as they get repeated.
