The Delaware Primary
I am not deluded enough to believe that an endorsement from this blog would sway many (any?) votes in the Delaware Republican primary, but I am going to weigh in nonetheless. We strongly endorse Mike Castle as the republican candidate for that senate seat. The reason is simple: Castle will win in November; his opponent Christine O'Donnell is unlikely to do so. While O'Donnell is clearly more conservative than Castle, the USA is also clearly more conservative than the voters in Delaware. Castle is more in tune with the views of the voters of his state. A conservative vote for O'Donnell in the primary is actually a vote for keeping control of the senate in the hands of Harry Reid and the Democrats. It would be silly for Republican voters to have self inflicted wounds in the name of ideological purity. Pragmatism should be the overarching determinant. The goal is not to have the perfect senate candidate; it is to have the best senator possible. And the emphasis is clearly on POSSIBLE. Castle has been a good representative for Delaware and he will make a fine senator. I am sure I will not agree with every vote he makes, but the percentage I like will be vastly higher than those that would be taken by the Democrat in the race. We have seen where the Democrats have taken the country and it is not pretty. We need, more than anything else, to get them out of control in Washington.
