In a poll released today, the Connecticut Senate race is now a six point affair. Democrat Richard Blumenthal is leading Republican Linda McMahon by 51-45%. 4 percent are undecided, but 11% of the voters also said that they could change their minds before election day. In other words, this race is very far from being decided.
Right now, McMahon has momentum. She was 40 points back earlier this year. Each time there are new polls she just gets closer. In truth, if there is a Republican surge at the polls in November which brings out the GOP base in a bigger percentage than usual, McMahon could go over the top and beat Blumenthal.
The very idea that Richard Blumenthal could lose a statewide race in Connecticut tell you that this is far from an ordinary year. Blumenthal has been the states top vote getter for nearly a decade. His favorable rating is quite high. Nevertheless, there are countless voters who want to send something different in Washington. They do not want another big government liberal pushing for new policies that basically amount to more taxes and more spending. In Connecticut, it is a political earthquake that is off the charts of the Richter Scale.
