The New York Times and the polls

The new York Times is out with an article explaning how Democrats are doing better than expected in House races and Republican control is not a sure thing. According to the Times, as of today Democrats are favored in 207 races compared with 192 where Republicans are favored. The remainder are classified as tossups. Interestingly, Real Clear Politics which rates races based upon polling data has a composite that shows Republicans ahead in 207 races and Democrats in 190. Can it really be that the Times can glean a different leader in 17 races from the one who is ahead in the polls? I doubt it, but that is the story that the Times is pushing right now.

It will be interesting to see the comparison of the final results with the Times' projections as we get closer to election day.
